Virtual Session – Is AI the end-all solution for Security?

June 17 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm EDT

$11.62

Is AI the end-all for security, operations, and maintenance?

Intelligent buildings are integral to a smart city’s ecosystem. And while many building owners are seeking to automate processes to enhance energy efficiency and tenant satisfaction, addressing evolving safety regulations has become a considerable concern since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As cities and buildings become more sophisticated, there will be a growing need to analyze more data from multiple sensors and automate processes. To be successful, building owners and city officials will require investment in a combination of cloud, artificial intelligence (AI), and data analytics solutions as well as other sophisticated technologies that help users manage and better understand what’s happening in their environment. Physical security solutions are not just for security anymore. End users want to be able to leverage physical security investments for other business objectives. This can include achieving higher levels of building automation, tracking occupancy levels to meet evolving safety regulations, or spotting opportunities to improve customer service.

Many believe that AI solutions can be applied to their installation ‘out-of-the-box’ with little configuration and deliver accurate results. In this session, we’ll explore some of the buzz words, demystify what can truly be ‘out-of-the-box’, and why we prefer to speak of intelligent automation (IA).

Dr. Sean Lawlor is the Data Science team leader at Genetec Inc based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He received his PhD from McGill University in 2016 in Electrical Engineering where he focused on unsupervised modelling and inference in traffic networks. He is an expert in both supervised and unsupervised learning problems. He currently leads Genetec’s team which investigates and assesses the applications of machine learning and signal processing techniques to improve efficiency and intelligence in Genetec’s Security Center and cloud platforms.
