Organized Retail Crime and COVID-19: Trends, Explanations, and the Future

This webinar will review the results from an industry-wide survey on organized retail crime during the COVID-19 pandemic conducted by the Organized Retail Crime Working Group at the Loss Prevention Research Council. It will review the trends in ORC, discuss theoretical explanations for these trends, and provide actionable insights for controlling ORC as the industry adapts to changing conditions.
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Describe the trends in ORC during COVID-19
- Understand the limitations of all ORC industry data
- Understand the potential explanations for trends in ORC according to:
- Rational choice theory and situational crime prevention
- Routine activities theory
- Apply the lessons above to implement more effective anti-ORC programs

Loss Prevention Research Council
Cory Lowe is a research scientist at the Loss Prevention Research Council where he directs the organized retail crime, product protection, and data analytics working groups. He received his PhD from the University of Florida in 2020 and has published research on crime, substance use, and delinquency in multiple scholarly publications.
