ASIS Chapter 162 – Transitioning to Cyber Security without an IT background

May 20, 2021 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm EDT

About this event

Join us on May 20th for an informative session on strategies to work In Cybersecurity without an IT/Technical background presented by Josh Darby MacLellan.

An increasing number of people are pivoting into cybersecurity from a diverse range of backgrounds. However, it’s a career move that is far easier said than done. It’s often challenging to know where to start and how to make the first move towards cybersecurity. In this presentation, Josh will discuss how he transitioned from working in corporate security to cyber threat intelligence, strategies to make a similar pivot, and some practical first steps.

After studying political-science, Josh Darby MacLellan pivoted to cybersecurity by joining the Cyber Threat Intelligence team at a Big Five bank in 2019. He originally started his career in corporate security where he worked in risk management, travel security, and intelligence. Josh holds committee positions with (ISC)2 Toronto Chapter and ASIS Canada, focused on supporting new entrants to industry. Josh was part of the first batch to secure the APP certification and he kept busy during the pandemic winter by locking down the CISSP and CCSP certifications.

As a reminder all fees collected will be going to ASIS 162 charity of choice: Brown Bag for Kids
