ASIS Chapter 156 – “SELLING YOUR SECURITY PROGRAM TO EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT” by Phillip Banks
January 26 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm EST
The success of a security program can be measured in several unique ways using different techniques. Some are statistically based while others focus on activities such as client feedback and individual or overall security team performance. There are lots of opportunities to identify how the program is doing but selling this message to executive management can be more challenging.
If we ask the question “Is the security program successful?” the response may be yes; however, the more important question might be “Does executive management know that the security program is successful and what that means to the business?”
Selling the security program to management is not an isolated activity but rather an ongoing effort that educates them about the work and successes of the larger security team. What you sell is as important as how you sell it. What you sell should be readily understood, address business needs, be objective, supportable, flexible, measurable as well as many other things depending on the environment within which you are operating.
