Alan Murphy has been a member of the Edmonton Police Service for 25 years where he is currently the Deputy Chief of Police in command of the Community Policing Bureau; a position he has held since 2018. Community Policing Bureau encompasses eight frontline patrol and investigative branches with over 1000 sworn and civilian employees. These eight branches oversee all frontline patrol operations, which include day-to-day policing response to calls for service, the crime management on proactive and reactive issues within the city, and community initiatives focused to improve the relationship between police and the public they serve. He is also a member of the Emergency Management Agency for the City of Edmonton providing strategic leadership on major events. Alan is a volunteer member of the Board of Directors for the YMCA of Northern Alberta which is the second-largest YMCA in Canada. Through this work, he has a positive impact on the community outside of policing.
